District Wide A.L.I.C.E. Training
The Bacon County School District faculty and staff recently participated in A.L.I.C.E. training. A.L.I.C.E. or "Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate," is a program designed to train us with proactive alternatives to help survive an active shooter event.
Safety has become a paramount issue in the world of education. Active shooter events are becoming more frequent in our society and we must prepare for them in advance to provide our students and staff with a greater chance of survival. The program is based on scientific studies and utilizes active learning through lectures, demonstrations, and discussions/debriefing. These tools enable the learner to hear the information, see it firsthand, and discuss the various options available for the exercise.
This is just one of many efforts BCSD has taken to ensure our students and staff stay safe while on our campuses. Around 340 individuals participated in this training, including central office staff, administrators, teachers, nutrition specialists, bus drivers, and custodial staff. This training provided our district members with one more tool in their safety toolbox as well as preparing their minds to properly handle a catastrophic event such as an active shooter.
