Rewis BCHS January Heart of Service Award Winner
Coach Greg Gay selected Mrs. Vickie Rewis as the January Heart of Service Award Recipient. He said this about why he selected Mrs. Rewis for this honor:
The Heart of Service Award is for a person who is devoted to their organization and has a willingness to serve others at the expense of their own personal sacrifice. Someone that sees their 8-5, or in our case 7:30-3:30, as more than just a job, but an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than themselves. It’s an award given to someone that loves their community and because of that, their influence is felt outside these walls.
I personally admire this person because they call it like they see it. When you ask this person something, you can count on getting the truth without any of the beating around the bush. This person is “seasoned” and because they’ve been around a while, they’re a go to person for so many of us.
This person has a tough exterior, which is evident with their interaction with the students, parents, and faculty. However, when you peel back the outer layer, you see a person who loves kids, always acting in the student's best interest, and loves this school.
Unfortunately, we don’t always accurately assess someone’s value until they are gone. This person isn’t leaving, at least not yet; however, this school will have some really big shoes to fill when they decide to retire. When preparing for this I came across this quote, which I think accurately describes this person.
“When people are financially invested, they want a return. When people are emotionally invested, they want to contribute.” -Simon Sinek
The Heart of Service Award goes to a person who brightens our mornings, often giving us much needed laughter to start the day when leading us in the National Anthem. For her unselfish desire to serve our school staff, students, and parents, I am honored to give the award to “THE” Vicki Rewis.
